Chinese New Year falls on 14th February 2010. It begins according to the Chinese Calendar, which comprises of both Gregorian and lunar-solar calendar systems. Unlike past few years, the changing track of new moon welcomes a new year carrying the animal sign- Tiger.

Chinese New Year finds its appeal in India too. Chinese family residing in different parts of the country start preparing for the day one week prior to its arrival. Houses and surroundings are cleaned to wash away the dirt of previous year. Windows and walls are given fresh coat of paints and decor elements are positioned in different corners of the room. New clothes are bought and some prefer to don dresses of red in color. Also, people on the very day believe to spend day without any kind of dispute and misunderstanding. They believe that whatever one does on the first day of a New Year, would set a trend for the coming days of the year.

Chinese Community all over India follow some traditional rules on the first day of a New Year. They visit religious sites like temples and cemetery and pay homage to their ancestors. The prayer session follows the burning of silver and gold paper, that symbolizes offering money to the Almighty in the hope of a prosperous New Year.

Emerald Isle Resort in Bangalore, China Gate and Malabar Hill in Mumbai and China Town in Kolkata are popular places which glitters with new year parties. Also, religious-minded people can visit Linh-Son-Chinese Buddhist Temple in Kushinagar (Uttar Pradesh), Bodhgaya in Bihar and other Chinese temple destinations in India.
